    Beef with Japanese Bunching Onion

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

been with green japanese bunching onion on a white plate

Just when you thought I was done with beef, here's another recipe with it for the week! This beef with Japanese bunching onion is quick to whip up and so delicious.

When I first made beef with bunching onion, it was more of a what-do-I-have-in-the-fridge kind of recipe. But after the first bite, it was so clear that I'd be making it A LOT in the future. And before I knew it, Japanese bunching onion became something that makes it to the cart every time I do my shopping at the supermarket (you don't get this at Thai markets). I tried putting it in a lot of things and they turned out to be delicious to me. Still, nothing beats an Asian beef stir fry (either with or without Japanese bunching onion). 🙂

been with green japanese bunching onion on a white plate

For this dish to be really satisfying, I think it's best you use thinly sliced beef with a bit of fat. That way, it just cooks better. Oh, and you want your garlic thinly sliced too because this allows it to absorb all the seasoning and be really soft when cooked. This is something that's too good to be missed. The garlic, the Japanese bunching onions, and the chilies --- all these flavors, my, my, my. They're so tasty that even if you finish the beef before them, you can still enjoy them with rice.

been with green japanese bunching onion on a white plate

Does it make this dish sound more tempting it I tell you it takes just about 20 minutes to make? All you have to do before throwing everything together is just a little bit of chopping and slicing. If you have all the ingredients, this could make the perfect easy midweek meal. It's essentially an Asian beef stir fry that's better and definitely healthier than takeaway ones! I mean, you can choose how you want to go about the oil or the beef yourself. Actually, this may even work as a budget recipe since the ingredients are so basic. Pretty amazing, right?

If you're a beef person, aka the best kind of person, you and this beef with bunching onion seriously need to have a weeknight date.

    Enjoy!

I've never tried Japanese bunching onions but I looked them up and they seem similar to spring onions or young leeks, which is what I will use to make this delicious Thai beef stir fry!

This looks so simple and tasty - I think putting in a whole head of garlic is inspired. I've never seen Japanese bunching onions at our big Asian grocery store but am heading there today and will ask about them!

The bunching onions are nice but if you really can't find them, I think leek will do.

They look similar to leek but are slightly different in flavor. You should be able to find them in an Asian grocery store! If not, go with leek 🙂
