My homemade strawberry hojicha latte is a quick little pick-me-up drink you can make on a hot summer day. This drink combines the flavors of fresh strawberries, almond milk, and aromatic hojicha tea. Not only is it tasty but it's also pretty, making it perfect to make for your guests and friends!

Iced Strawberry Hojicha Latte
This Iced strawberry hojicha latte is another favorite drink of mine. It's always so hot in Thailand and it's a refreshing drink like this that helps cool me down each day. And like my strawberry matcha latte, this easy cafe-style strawberry hojicha latte never disappoints!
Making this hojicha latte is so easy. It requires only 4 simple ingredients (if you don't count water and ice), and takes less than 10 minutes. I fall in love with the look and the taste of it again and again, and I'm pretty sure you will too!

There's something about strawberries and milk. And then there's something about strawberry milk and green tea. The sweetness of the strawberry puree and creaminess of milk just goes so well with the roasted, smoky flavor of hojicha.
Look how stunning this drink is with its red, white and brown layers! I couldn't help but take loads of pictures every time I make it! After all I'm just a girl who can't say no to cute drinks.

What Is Hojicha?

While you may be more familiar with matcha, hojicha is not any less good. In fact, it comes from the same green tea plant as matcha but goes through a whole roasting process over charcoal in a porcelain pot.
This process turns the color of the tea leaves from green into brown. It also gives the tea a unique smoky, nutty, and caramel-like flavor which I really love.
Additionally, the heat from the roasting process evaporates the tea's caffeine content significantly, making hojicha lower in caffeine compared to other green teas. As a result, many enjoy it as an evening drink.
You can get hojicha tea powder at Asian grocery stores, but it's easier to order it online these days.

Ingredients
Here is a visual overview of the ingredients in the recipe. Scroll down to the recipe at the bottom for quantities.

- Strawberries: Fresh or frozen strawberries both work well for this recipe. If you're using frozen strawberries, thaw them in the refrigerator overnight or at room temperature for 30 minutes before mashing.
- Sugar: I use granulated sugar. You want to make sure it's fully dissolved and well mixed with the strawberries when you mash them. Sugar can be substituted with simple syrup, honey, or other sweeteners here. Simply adjust the sweetness level to your taste.
- Hojicha: There are many brands available online. You can use the one I recommend and have linked to or any one that appears trustworthy to you. Hojicha is normally cheaper than matcha but it isn't cheap.
- Milk: This strawberry hojicha latte recipe is dairy-free. I use almond milk in mine but you can use any milk of your choice. If you want a thicker latte, go for full fat cow's milk, soy milk or oat milk. Almond milk is slightly lighter but I like it.
How To Make Strawberry Hojicha Latte

Step 1: In a small container, add strawberries and granulated sugar and mash them with a muddler. Make sure the sugar is thoroughly dissolved and mixed with the strawberries. Set aside.

Step 2: Add hojicha powder to a small bowl. Pour in warm water and whisk vigorously from side to side with a bamboo whisk until smooth.
Step 3: In a glass, add the strawberry sauce to the bottom.
Step 4: Fill the glass with ice cubes.
Step 5: Pour in milk, leaving about ¼ of the glass for the hojicha.
Step 6: Pour the hojicha over the milk and ice. Stir to enjoy.
Tips

- Do not use boiling water as it can make your hojicha bitter.
- If you don't have a bamboo whisk, you can use a milk frother to mix hojicha powder with water.
