You'd be surprised how much sweet strawberries can elevate the classic matcha latte and make it taste so good!

Not only is this strawberry matcha latte delicious, it's also very pretty to look at with its red, white and green colored layers. Isn't it amazing that you can create this gorgeous drink that will impress your guests or friends with just simple ingredients?

If you love stunning drinks, check out butterfly pea lemonade, butterfly pea milk, and raspberry lime vodka.

    What Is Matcha?

    matcha powder

For those unfamiliar with matcha, it is basically a fine powder of green tea. Matcha tea leaves are specially grown in the shades to give them vibrant green color and distinctive umami flavor. This growing process also makes matcha antioxidant-rich.

You can get matcha green tea powder at Asian grocery stores, but I usually order mine online.

Here is a visual overview of the ingredients in the recipe. Scroll down to the recipe at the bottom for quantities.

ingredients for making strawberry matcha latte
    • Strawberries: You can use fresh or frozen strawberries. I've tried both and they work perfectly fine. If using frozen, thaw them in the refrigerator overnight or at room temperature for 30 minutes before mashing.
    • Sugar: I use granulated sugar. Just make sure it's fully dissolved and well mixed with the strawberries when you mash them. You can substitute sugar with simple syrup, honey, or other sweeteners as well. Simply adjust the sweetness level to your taste.
    • Matcha: I recommend using ceremonial grade matcha powder. It's the highest quality, offers a vibrant green color and that umami flavor. However, it's also the most expensive. You can use culinary grade matcha too, but its flavor will be different and the color might look dull and yellowish.
    • Milk: This strawberry matcha latte recipe can be made dairy-free. You can use any milk of your choice. I love using almond or soy milk. If you want a thicker base, go for full fat cow's milk, soy milk or oat milk. Almond milk tends to be lighter but tastes very good!

Step 2: Sift matcha powder into a small bowl. Pour in room temperature water and whisk vigorously from side to side with a bamboo whisk until smooth and foamy on top.

Step 3: In a glass, add the strawberry sauce to the bottom.

Step 4: Fill the glass with ice cubes.

Step 5: Pour in milk, leaving about ¼ of the glass for the matcha.

Step 6: Pour the matcha over the milk and ice. Stir to enjoy.

    Tips

    1. Clumping is a sign of high quality matcha. So make sure you don't skip the sifting.
    2. Use room temperature or cold water. If you use boiling water, you risk burning your matcha powder.
    3. If you don't have a bamboo whisk, you can use a milk frother to mix matcha powder with water.
