Yardlong beans and bacon – the perfect stir fry combo.
Yardlong bean, also known as Chinese long bean and asparagus bean, is a vegetable with many health benefits. For example, it’s a great source of antioxidants and loaded with protein, iron, phosphorus, potassium and vitamin A.
In Thailand, it’s eaten both raw and cooked, and I personally think it’s great either way. My favorite dish using yardlong beans has got to be the quick and satisfying stir fried yardlong beans, which happens to be keto-friendly, in case anyone around here follows the keto diet. Although it’s an easy dish, still there’s a secret to making this stir fry great. And that’s to not add any water to it when cooking!
I know adding water to stir fries may sound weird to some cultures but many Thais do add water to their vegetable stir fries. Even I do that sometimes. But not with this baby, babe. With no water, the yardlong beans will be coated in fat and their texture and shape stay nice longer.
Did I mention this stir fry is really, really easy to make? Man, it’s ready in 10 minutes, preparation included. Everybody needs this in their life, come on! Just cut your yardlong beans and bacon the sizes you prefer, peel and chop a few garlic cloves, and I guarantee you can have this beautiful dish ready within the next five minutes.
Because there’s enough fat in the bacon and there’s nothing quite like frying stuff in bacon fat 😝, we won’t be needing any oil for this dish. Just start with the bacon, fry it until it’s at the texture you like, then add garlic and yardlong beans and season with salt. This recipe should easily be enough for two people to share and you’ll want to have fluffy jasmine rice ready to serve the stir fry with (or your other alternative if you’re on the keto diet).

Stir Fried Yardlong Beans with Bacon
A super quick and easy yardlong bean stir fry with garlic and bacon. Great with rice and ready in 10 minutes!
- Prep Time: 5 minutes
- Cook Time: 5 minutes
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 2 servings 1x
- Cuisine: Asian
- 4 strips bacons, cut into bite-size pieces
- 4 cloves garlic, chopped
- 125 g yardlong beans, cut into 1 inch pieces
- Salt, to taste
- Heat a wok over medium heat and fry the bacon until it’s at your preferred texture.
- Add the garlic and stir to mix
- Toss in the yardlong beans and continue to stir for about 5 minutes.
- Season to taste with salt and remove from heat to serve.
