Crispy Air Fryer Wontons with Pork Filling

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

This air-fried pork wontons recipe is a healthier version of the popular Asian appetizer or snack! It's simply wonton wrappers stuffed with ground pork seasoned with soy sauce, loaded with the flavors of garlic, cilantro root, and white peppercorn, and cooked until crispy in the air fryer with so little oil.

    Why This Recipe Works

This recipe makes as many as 40 pieces of addictive restaurant-style fried pork wontons that everyone loves. Served with Thai sweet chili sauce, it's the perfect finger food for parties, gatherings or when you're watching a game (just like my Thai pork toast).

As this is an air-fryer version of the popular deep-fried pork wontons, you only need a little bit of oil to coat the wonton wrappers to make sure that they don't stick to your air fryer. These are much healthier and when cooked at the right temperature, they are just as crispy as the deep-fried wontons!

Looking to make a larger batch of these? No problem! Scale up the recipe and prepare these pork-stuffed wontons the day before you want to cook them to save you time on the busy day.

Also make sure you bookmark my Thai style ground pork marinade recipe for future use as well. It works with this wonton filling!

    Ingredient Notes

Cilantro Root: This can be difficult to find but if you can get it, don't omit this ingredient!

Sugar: Yes, sugar. It is very normal to add a bit of sugar to food when cooking Thai because it helps round out the flavor.

Wonton Wrappers: You can use any shape of wonton wrappers you want and fold it however you want.

Olive Oil: Go for the kind you can use for frying.

    Step-By-Step Instructions

Step 1: Place the garlic in a mortar and pound until fine with a pestle.

Step 2: Add the cilantro root and continue to pound.

Step 3: Add the white peppercorns, pound until fine and set the mixture aside.

Notes: If you don't have a set of mortar and pestle, you can use a food processor for steps 1-3.

Step 4: In a bowl, mix the ground pork with the pounded herb mixture, soy sauce and sugar with your hand.

Step 5: Take a wonton wrapper and put about a tablespoon of pork in the middle and fold one edge of the square to another to form a triangle, using water to stick edges together. Fold the left edge of the triangle to the middle and the right edge to the middle as well, on top of the left and stick with water. Do the same until you have 40 pieces. View step-by-step images.

Step 6: Use a cooking brush to coat each piece with olive oil so that they don't stick to the air fryer. Turn each piece over and brush the other side with olive oil too.

Step 7: Lay the coated pork-filled wontons in the air fryer flat. You can put in as many as you can.

Tip: Make sure none of the wontons sit on top of each other in the air fryer.

Step 8: Set your air fryer to 356°F or 180°C and fry for 20 minutes.

Step 9: Take the wontons out of the air fryer and serve.

What To Serve This Appetizer With

Although crispy pork wontons are typically served with Thai Sweet Chili sauce, you can enjoy them with any sauces you want or even on their own. Some people prefer Sriracha but I love to mix Sriracha with Thai Sweet Chili sauce and that's what I highly recommend. If you want to have some vegetable to go with them, they go well with cucumber.
